Resumen:
In the summer of 2006, Thomas Rolander, the current Chief Technical Officer of CrossLoop, receives a call from his parents, living in Seattle Washington, in which he learns that his father had been diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. Unable to leave Pacific Grove, California, for an extended period of time Rolander developed a screen sharing tool that allowed him to run applications like photo slide shows and install Skype on his parent's computer. Later that year he developed this capability into a tool that allowed a technical support person to take control of another person's computer over the Internet to solve problems and launched CrossLoop early in 2007. Currently the firm gives away the software and charges a 10% commission on the fees charged by helpers over the platform. The case allows students to compare this marketplace business model with that of several competitors that charge for the software.
