Resumen:
The article reports on a study of staffing levels in a specialty-retail chain store in the United States where the proper level of staffing, or payroll, is usually determined as a fraction of sales and financial performance. Data from a four-year period indicated that tasks such as replenishment of store displays and return of goods to the distributor were neglected if stores were understaffed. Higher staffing levels improved both tasks and possibly profit margins. Understaffing did not affect the maintenance or cleanliness of the store environment. Two suggestions are given for determining the staff level and the hours of labor necessary for managing a store efficiently.
